The Connect Program, with key sponsorship from the Greenwood School, wants to give your kids the opportunity to travel, spend time with peers from around the country, learn about the world in new ways, and experience an adventure that has the potential to shift how they define who they are.
OUR MISSION
The Connect Program's mission is to provide dynamic, challenging and fun summer community service-learning programs individualized for middle school-age boys and girls that foster self-reflection, mutual responsibility, and a commitment to community.
THREE WEEKS TO REMEMBER
We are a three-week summer program, running from July 11-30, 2008 - based from Greenwood’s campus in southeastern Vermont. The first phase is a three-day orientation and pre-education at Greenwood; the second phase is the two-week service-learning trip in various locations around the US and abroad; and the third phase is a three day reflection, debriefing and presentation back at Greenwood.
The first and third phases actively involve parents on the opening and closing days, and are designed to act as anchors for the entire Connect community's experience. Each trip is designed with a mix of service opportunities, educational experiences, fun adventure-type activities and daily reflection, both individually and collectively.
COMMITTED TO THE SERVICE-LEARNING EXPERIENCE
The Greenwood School believes that when service and learning are strategically utilized as tools for self-growth, the results can profoundly shift how young people see themselves in the world. Connect is committed to offering an experience in service-learning, leadership and travel that is completely unique, and that doesn't currently exist for middle school girls and boys. Connect is not a traditional summer camp, but rather a program specifically tailored for the middle school age range dedicated to the effectiveness of small groups, individualized attention and care, alternative approaches to education and the value of service as a method of self-discovery.
