Six Nations - Grand River Territory

The camp is located on the Grand River in the territory of the Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy, an hour from Buffalo, NY in Ontario, Canada. Indigenous wisdom and environmental knowledge are key components of the trip. Teachings will be given on the Creation story of the Haudenosaunee, the Seven Sacred Laws, and the many ceremonies of celebration of the great Life Force of Creation.
Students will be exposed to two practices that guide the community’s way of life, the teachings about the ways of “giving thanks” and the use of “council.” The group will assist the community through canning/freezing vegetables from garden, planting a butterfly garden, building an outdoor oven and pruning fruit/pine trees on property.
Volleyball games, cultural teachings, pipe and fire ceremonies, swimming and making rattles, purification lodge preparation and ceremony, and the entire second week will be a canoe/camping trip in nearby Algonquin Park!
